How the work comes together.

01

Rural Journalism to Long-Form Narrative

Thirteen years covering small-town Nebraska — city councils, farm auctions, main street business closures — gave me a nose for the story underneath the official story. That beat taught me how to listen without an agenda and how to write something that respects the reader's intelligence. The result is a portfolio built on real reporting, not assigned topics.

Clients who need this work are usually looking for someone who can go somewhere, talk to people who don't want to talk, and come back with copy that earns the reader's time. I know how to do that. I've been doing it for over a decade.

02

Brand Voice Development for Independent Creators

Long-term content partnerships require understanding what a client actually sounds like — not just what they want to sound like. This work starts with a discovery process: reading what they've already written, finding the authentic voice underneath the polish, and then building a content system that reinforces it consistently over time.

The output isn't a style guide that sits in a drawer. It's monthly deliverables that sound like them, on deadline, with enough runway to build an audience instead of just filling a content calendar.

Personal Essays on Work, Identity, and Creative Process

The kind of essay that takes three drafts before the real subject appears. Often the "real subject" is about something the writer didn't know they were writing about — which means the writer doesn't know what they need until it's done. This is the hardest, and the most satisfying, kind of work.

I write these for myself and for clients who have a story they know is worth telling but don't know how to shape. The process is the same: find the shape first, then write toward it.
